SETTING
A single family row house in an historic neighbourhood
A worn façade striped of important character details by past renovations that replaced the historical features with dated elements that do not fit
PLOT
All elements of the façade are carefully considered
Blending the best of historical details with contemporary tastes
THE RENOVATED FAÇADE
The painted brick and cornice are refinished in a new modern palette. The existing windows and doors are replaced with new thermal units that respect the design requirements of the historical neighbourhood.
To re-establish the original charm while satisfying design regulations,
The balcony is reclad in wood and the entry is restored to its original form.
COLOUR STUDIES
Several colour studies are undertaken to find the right hue for the brick and for the location of colour accents at the cornice.
THE ENTRY
The entry is restored to its original form with the reintroduction of a rough-hewn wooden header beam, clerestory windows and a custom ornamental wooden post.
THE DOORS AND TRIMS
The pre-manufactured aluminum doors (in a rich red colour) provide the detail and proportion that fit with the historic presidents while providing superior thermal separation.
The custom design for the ornamental post is a simplified version inspired by various original examples remaining in the neighbourhood.
