Aging apartments in need of improvement
PLOT
A young owner wants to create a place of her own
and update the apartment below as a better rental offering.
THE EXISTING PLAN
The identical mirror twin to the designer's adjacent rowhouse.
A chance to explore other solutions.
THE OWNER'S APARTMENT
The spaces of the third floor unit are reconfigured.
One bedroom is maintained at the front of the house and the bath with laundry is relocated adjacent.
With the displacement of the bathroom, an open plan comes into vue. The second bedroom is deconstructed, giving way to a large kitchen that overlooks the adjacent dining area and the living room nestled at the back of the house.
New finishes and fixtures are installed throughout.
THE RENTAL APARTMENT
At the second floor unit below, much of the original plan is maintained while still opening up the plan. The two bedrooms welcome the relocated bathroom between them. The new kitchen, now free from the obstruction of the original bathroom, is reconfigured, now opening directly to the living and dining spaces.
The space mixes new and original finishes adorned with updated fixtures.
