SETTING
Two existing rowhouses back-to-back
with a shared yard between
A family, parents and teens,
each needing a space of their own
PLOT
The residence is recreated as one house stretching street to street,
expanding the possibilities of family living at various scales.
THE ADDITION
Part of the former yard is taken over to become the connector for the existing buildings.
The remaining exterior space is reshaped into a new 2-story brick courtyard.

THE GROUND FLOOR :
FAMILY SPACE
The ground floor is a place of the entire family to be together.
THE SECOND FLOOR :
ADULT SPACE
The second floor is entirely for the parents.
The floor provides a master suite, an additional living space and a home office / guest room.
THE THIRD FLOOR : TEEN SPACE
The kids' loft stretches across the top floor, with two bedrooms, a kid's lounge and small outdoor space.
Redwood and copper awnings direct the light and frame the view.
